Resarch Division > Department of Cytogenetics

Sickle Cell Institute Chhattisgarh (SCIC), Raipur .

The department’s research program will focus on the structure, function, plasticity and evolution of nuclear genome at the DNA and chromosomal level with special emphasis on essential chromosomal domains such as centromeres, telomeres, nucleolus organizers, eu- and heterochromatin etc. Mechanisms responsible for the stability and variability of genomes (mutagenesis, repair, recombination) are studied with a view to biotechnological application.

Molecular and chromosomal markers are developed for use in mapping, isolation and transfer of agronomically interesting genes to increase the variability of various crops as well as for the identification and evaluation of plant genetic resources of germplasm collections.
